NOTE: A computer’s processor, sometimes called the central processing unit or CPU, has evolved from a room full of vacuum tubes to a small integrated circuit called a microprocessor. A microprocessor gets its name from the fact that it is no bigger than the finger nail on your baby finger! Whatever its size the processor follows program instructions which may tell it to move data from or to its memory or to perform arithmetic (+, -, *, /) or logical (>, <, =) operations on designated data.
